Oracle Cards: A magical tool to tap your inner wisdom

This is a blog I’ve been wanting to share for a long time! It’s all about my favorite oracle decks. If you’re new to oracle decks or just looking for a fresh one to try, you’re in the right place.

Oracle Cards Demystified

Oracle cards have long been misunderstood, given a bad rap as tools of dark energy. This misconception stems from centuries of propaganda casting fear around anything perceived as mystical or outside the realm of traditional religion. Oracle cards are very much a tool of light—they are a reflective tool designed to help you access your own inner wisdom and intuition.

You've likely heard of "tarot cards," which are one of many types of oracle card decks. Tarot cards follow a structured system and require extensive training and study to interpret. This is why you often hear of professional tarot card readers. There are many other varieties of oracle card decks with easy-to-understand messages of guidance, clarity, and inspiration that are appropriate for users at all levels. Oracle decks are designed with unique themes for accessing wisdom that can range from angelic messages to nature-based insights, making them accessible and inviting to a broad audience.

At their core, oracle cards are a bridge between the conscious mind and the deeper, often quieter voice of intuition. In a world that values logic and external validation, oracle cards invite you to pause, reflect, and reconnect with your own inner knowing. Using oracle cards can feel like a conversation with your higher self—a moment of stillness to access clarity, peace, and direction. By helping you access your inner wisdom and these desired states, oracle cards help you navigate work and all of life with greater confidence and alignment to your truest self.

How to Use an Oracle Deck

An oracle is a wisdom-holder, someone who offers guidance and answers to life’s questions. An oracle deck is a set of cards infused with sacred wisdom through words, images, and symbols. Using a deck is a powerful practice to ask questions and receive answers. Here’s how:

Step one. Mindfully shuffle the deck.

You can shuffle in any style that feels comfortable, easy, and fun to you. The more you breathe, clear your mind, and feel present - the more connected you'll feel to your inner wisdom and the reading that comes through.

Step two. Ask your question—it can be general or specific:

  • General: "What wisdom do I need for today?" or "What should I know about this month?"

  • Specific: "How can I move forward in this relationship?" or "What’s my next step in this career challenge?"

Step three. Draw 1 card or 3.

You can pick one from the top after shuffling or spread them out and sense into which card feels right, or my favorite, most playful method is to shuffle lightly until a card falls out of the deck.

  • For a one card reading, you're asking for guidance to be provided for you through one card.

  • For the 3 card spread you get a more detailed reading. The 3 cards, in the order you pull them, represent the Past, Present, and Future. More fully, the first card represents context and why from past patterns this situation is here, the second card represents the guidance for you to take, and the third card represents where you're going if you follow the guidance.

Step four. Look at the card and tune into your intuition.

Reflect on the messages that the images, words, and symbols provide for you. The beauty of oracle cards is that they help you connect with your intuition. The images and words on the card often spark a deep knowing within you. And more often than not, the guidance you receive will validate what you already sense is the next right step!
